The Mesoamerican gods this time--are they Phonoecian travelers from overseas, or are they mere myth, or something else?
I'll take the side of "phonoecian travelers," if anyone will debate this.

I'm sorry, I'm gonna have to take the side of Polynesian/Inuit travelers. Possibly even Vikings.

That would be OK, but unfortunately, it is pretty much the side I have taken.

Yup, so I'm gonna withdraw from this debate.

I don't think we're going to have a debate here. Apparently you know a lot about this, and I don't think anyone else does. But I'll give it a shot. I make no promises, however.

Indeed, I know more about Mesoamerica than most. You should see the threads in UP when Aztecs pop up.
OK...which side shall you take?

I'll try taking that they are created in the same fashion as other gods- an amalgam of ideals, events and personalities.

Could this debate possibly work? It is merely a whole bunch of nothing more than speculation. Sure, there are coincidences to back up my argument, but what do they amount to? There is no proof of anything.

Now that you mention it, probably not. And with the destruction of the Meso-American cultures by the Spanish, we don't have much to work with, do we?
EDIT: Although I would love to hear your reasoning. I promise not to be too critical.
