Don't we already have something like this in Resources?

I believe it merely contained the first link, which Muztard had titled "This is most certainly NOT porn!"
Which got everyone's attention very well.

For written material, I'd recomend The Religions of Man, by Huston Smith. it covers the major tenants of Hindusim, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. It's reasonably short ("only" 355 pgs), and pretty readable.

Is there a fundamental difference between our religions, besides perhaps their conviction?
acow
Dec 14 2004, 02:45 AM
Yes.
If you mean fervent of belif or something similar by "conviction".
All religions as "having the same message" is, to quote one character, "a bunch of hippy crap".

No, I mean between the religons of cows and humans. I suspect them to be far more believing.

http://www.ibs.org/niv/index.phpThis will let you search the bible for a specific word. Useful for looking for specific references and what not.

Sure, like most other "religions", it's just another institution which desires to control the populace and reduce rational thinking.

This is better than that site, you can search a ton of different versions of the bible.

www.buddhanet.com
I haven't looked through it much at all, and appears to come from a relatively liberal buddhist stance from a western perspective. Probably a mahayana practitioner.
IMO in doing so it downplays some of the factionism present in buddhism, and tries to gloss over the rough bits, such as the conservatism of theravada, beliefs of lay people in the buddhist world such as veneration of relics, and some of the more radical and modern japanese strains, and the trendiness of tantra and celebrity status of the dalai llama.
(these might be covered, but as i said i haven't really looked too deeply)

A word of warning on the Catholic Encyclopedia (and frankly something that should be mentioned with the other links as well), is that its far from neutral point of view.
It also seems to contain some factual inacuracies:
ie. In Buddhism:
QUOTE
The Dalai Lama, residing in the great monastery at Lhasa, passes for the incarnation of Amitabha, the Buddha of the Sukhavati paradise
From the top of my head, although Amitabha is the buddha of the sukhavati(and one of the more "my fucking god, what were they thinking" schools of buddhism), the Dalai Lama is held to be a reincarnation of Avoloketeshera(sp

), the bodhisattva of compassion.
