I have suggested this before but given the decline in forum participation I am once again suggesting getting rid of some of the inactive forums/subforums here.

The main benefit in my opinion is that with all threads combined into less forums it would be easier for people to follow all the activity that goes on here. This would hopefully mean that people see more active threads and maybe become interested enough to post in more threads.

The percieved drawback that people raised in the past was that the boards would become too cluttered with off topic posts. Like AHB would be filled with posts about sports or games. But given the low activity I don't see this as a big problem at this point. And who knows, someone might read a thread they might not have otherwise seen and maybe you get more interest in threads about sports for instance than you would have under the current system.

I would propose having registrations, website feedback, AHB, Politics, and flame wars. Get rid of announcements, U-P congress, sports, games, science, clash of civilizations, history, philospher's corner, ask a..., ports and dongels, and recycle bin.

I know I would like this a lot more because I could just look at politics and AHB and pretty much get an idea of whether there was anything of interest. And hopefully with more concentrated active threads it would encourage more interest in posting.

Anyone else agree with this? Or perhaps a modified version of this?

I agree.

Could we also get rid of the bot accounts too?

I agree, with the exception of getting rid of announcements and the recycle bin.

I might be inclined to combine history and philosophy, rather than get rid of them. Announcements might not get much use, but what use it does have cannot be combined with anything else. Other than that, I agree.

Getting rid of flame wars would also suit me, but others may not agree on that.

DS, I think, but he is not around anymore. Other than that, you would have to talk to Sastan.

Until then, I would say to just post everything in AHB or Politics, regardless of the topic.

thats right ed - they're 'liberals'.

i disagree. Its easy enough to click "view new posts", in fact its so easy i really don't get why any of you would want to troll through all the various forums.

who knows, perhaps if we can actually allow new members to join, we might start having a proper site again and NEED those extra fora.

plus - every time there is a 'reorganisation', we seem to end up losing a lot of old threads. Now i can understand why daky etc would want to lose them (others might read how "sleep-walking does not exist" for instance), but personally i quite enjoy reading through old threads and seeing how i was right all along...
