I bet its like a witchdoctor type thing. Zulu witchdoctors used to hunt magicians and mediums by sniffing them. Apparently, to witchdoctors, magic has a certain stench.

actually i guess the roots are the same, but the motivation is entirely different. A 'psyche attck' is an attempt by a weak person to take down another individual (to make themselves feel higher above them, presumably), instead of building htem up so you can both advance together, in sports that would be the 'protege' that the more experienced sportsman will train up in order both because they beleive in excellence, beleive in fair competition, and beleive in pushing themselves as far as possible, and to do that help others as high as they can as they recognise the benefits of competition - they are not scared of pitting their wits and abilities against someone without privelleges of rank or knowledge, whereas the practicioners of 'psyche attack' most certainly are. They are cowards.

a 'revenge attack' is a form of magic where the impulse is revenge. And thats enough.

Gnuneo is almost worse than KFS in making up terms of his own and then using them as if they were actual, established terms and everyone would know what he is talking about.

its a fair bet you'll miss the point entirely, but:

QUOTE
LEXICOGRAPHER, n. A pestilent fellow who, under the pretense of recording some particular stage in the development of a language, does what he can to arrest its growth, stiffen its flexibility and mechanize its methods. For your lexicographer, having written his dictionary, comes to be considered "as one having authority," whereas his function is only to make a record, not to give a law. The natural servility of the human understanding having invested him with judicial power, surrenders its right of reason and submits itself to a chronicle as if it were a statue. Let the dictionary (for example) mark a good word as "obsolete" or "obsolescent" and few men thereafter venture to use it, whatever their need of it and however desirable its restoration to favor — whereby the process of improverishment is accelerated and speech decays. On the contrary, recognizing the truth that language must grow by innovation if it grow at all, makes new words and uses the old in an unfamiliar sense, has no following and is tartly reminded that "it isn't in the dictionary" — although down to the time of the first lexicographer (Heaven forgive him!) no author ever had used a word that was in the dictionary. In the golden prime and high noon of English speech; when from the lips of the great Elizabethans fell words that made their own meaning and carried it in their very sound; when a Shakespeare and a Bacon were possible, and the language now rapidly perishing at one end and slowly renewed at the other was in vigorous growth and hardy preservation — sweeter than honey and stronger than a lion — the lexicographer was a person unknown, the dictionary a creation which his Creator had not created him to create.

God said: "Let Spirit perish into Form,"
And lexicographers arose, a swarm!
Thought fled and left her clothing, which they took,
And catalogued each garment in a book.
Now, from her leafy covert when she cries:
"Give me my clothes and I'll return," they rise
And scan the list, and say without compassion:
"Excuse us — they are mostly out of fashion."
—Sigismund Smith

It's one thing making up new words when they are needed. It's another thing entirely to do so (when they are not needed), and then use them casually in conversation as if they were established terms that everyone will understand.

Gnuneo's problem is that his name is Neil, adding insult to injury, his last name is Numan, so, with those bland and faceless names, he had to re-invent himself as some sort of Sting like character he thinks everyone will come to respect and love, since his ways are outside 'the box'. However what he doesn't realise is that like Sting, everyone loathes him.

neil, neil, sigh...
We are not 15 anymore. Those Goth emo crap is not impressing anyone. ditch the pot, find a job, and talk like a respectable human being, then you can get some real respect. don't you get frustrated that the only outlet for you in this world is this forum and the world is passing you by, ignoring you as we do now?

I think people would respect gnuneo more if he started using capitalization, coherent sentence structure and/or sane paragraph breaks. Without them, I doubt I'm the only one here who thinks that his typing degrades (although, it's not like his ideas were that hot to begin with) into an incomprehensible jumble of online mumbling, blathering and generally "tl;dr" posts.

Edit: note that of all the posts in this thread, gnuneo's is the only one that I didn't read, as trying to muddle through it made my eyes hurt. At least milton is able to hit return every other sentence to space out his uncapitalized sentences.

i receive respect from those who's respect i respect. Also, i have repeatedly linked to the books/theories that would explain my use of language to the point of exhaustion - those who have read them, or just put the effort in to understand my points understand me pretty well - as well as anyone can follow anothers thought patterns using written speech.

for the rest of you bliss is your unfortunate lot, seekers, bludgers an'all. You can take a horse to water, but if it wishes to die of thirst next to the stream - well its a free world. Be Blissful - and remember, War is Peace, Slavery is Freedom, Empathy is Cruelty and Hatred is Love.

So what does revenge magic refer to? The fact that Milton magically invented his own quote to use, as revenge?
