According to the faith of the Aztec, Maya, Toltec and other Mesoamerican peoples, the Gods require the sacrifice of some humans for the good of the world. It is only by this sacrifice that the Gods can maintain their battle against evil. There naturally is little empirical evidence for this, however it is supported by the faith of the people.
Is this faith justified? Is the human sacrifice in this case ethically defendable with what the Aztecs knew at the time about our world? Is faith alone never reason enough to create state policy? |
