I suppose in keeping with the MLK holiday here in this country, I'll open a forum for any of you people to clear the air with questions you'd want to ask a black person. Since your anonymous identities makes it impossible for me to tear up your asses, you can ask anything, like why do we say "axe" instead of "ask", why do we have bad credit, why do we think grills on our teeth are hot, why we commit so many crimes, why do we think getting good grades is "acting white", why is it we complain about racism but don't hesitate to beat up some random white guy who comes in the wrong neighborhood, and so on.

I'll refrain from any hostility, reciprocal or unwarranted, but try to keep your questions honest.

So have at it.

Sorry Mr Beer, but for white guys to beat up black guys, the white guy needs a big mob, clubs, and sheets. Jcrow has street cred.

What happened to the Blues, Funk, Mo-town style R&B and Jazz? Some Rap is good, but most sucks.

Lessee, Blues has been transmogrified into country music, as the Funk musicians grew older they grew less relevant to the younger generations. Motown's been sold off to Polygram, and as taboos get undermined the R&B gets ever freakier. I'm thankful that Jazz isn't as popularized as hip hop/rap because the worst thing that can happen to it is that it becomes derivative.

Yes you are right, most rap suck.

1.) "Axe" is one of those artifacts that came up from black separation, such as naming our babies Tamika or Tequan. Maybe it would make sense to improve the pronunciation, but since we'll just be "articulate" to whites when that happens, it makes sense to some not to make an effort to impress whites.

2.) Bad credit seems to be a nationwide trend, otherwise why do you have all those credit counseling commercials on Fox News?

3.) Grills are a symptom of any nouveu riche-ness among blacks who want to shed thier background of drudgery and poverty and conspicously convey their status as people with status and power. It's much the same as with whites who just recently come into money and display their newfound wealth in various ways while old money are more private with their wealth. In any case, those things are ugly as hell and I can't imagine how anyone can eat with those.

4.) Blacks commit a disproportionate number of crimes because there are more poor blacks in poor areas than there are poor whites in poor areas, despite the differences in population sizes.

more later, class. . .

5.) In terms of "acting white" the phenomenon seems less prevalent than imagined. According to this study there seemed to be no decrease in popularity for academically gifted black students in private schools or majority-black schools. As for integrated schools where there are usually segregated private "accelerated programs" for white students which allows some token blacks, then there are evidence of lessening popularity for those black students.

6.) Not to say that blacks aren't racist and may target whites out of hatred, but the chance of a white person encountering a black person is about 3 percent due to random chance, while the odds of a black person encountering a white person is about 57 percent, yet blacks victimize whites at a lesser rate than what would be expected by those statistics while blacks are victimized by whites at a higher rate than what would be expected. (O'Brien, Robert M., "The interracial nature of violent crimes: A reexamination." American Journal of Sociology. 1987, 92, (4), 817 - 835.)

Yes, he's at work teaching high-school kids now. And the number of black kids living with single parents is falling.

Seriously though, because we've had this argument before. Its no secret that much more can be done to have a more equal society. But the question is do you feel that we have not progressed?

Speaking of MLK. What do make of the stories you always hear about how he was an adulterer, heavy drinker, or whatever. People often will tell you about this and be like "see, he wasn't such a good guy." But what difference, if any, do these facts/claims make to you?

We have a coke head and drunk in office, shouldn't make that much of a difference. ;)

The part where he was a adulterer is fact.

I heard about that, and wasn't sure it was true or not. He sought out prostitutes and had sex with them, and felt genuinely sorry so he could experience grace, correct> This is what I have heard.

If you are talking about back of the busses, segregated lunch counters and "colored only" signs, then hell yeah we have infinitely progressed. But the problem is that those institutions should not have never been there in the first place. But speaking for the black generation that didn't have to put up with lynchings and segregation and hopefully never will, why in this era of supposed racial parity do we see wealth gaps increase by $16,000-$20,000 over ten years? Why does it seem easier for white ex cons to get jobs than for blacks with no criminal records to get jobs? Why are schools becoming increasingly more segregated than ten 15 years before? Then we had Katrina which literally exposed the neglect and disparity to the black communities which before people have failed to address. These and other questions help fuel the dissilusionment among today's generation.

It made me appreciate him even more. Other people in his stature or his position would just be imagemongers who would be affected by all the bad press and the rumors and will decide that their careers are over and hang up their jackets. MLK kept on fighting for what he knew was true, despite all the threats, innuendo, jailings, firebombs. I guess people can juxapose whatever "evil" MLK engaged in with the evil that he was fighting, or they can point out that a lot of the Great Men in history had bones in their closets too.

Actually, isn't there sort of a rivalry thing (at least in LA) between the Korean and Black communities?

Oh, and do you refer to yourself (IRL) as an "African American", black, or both?

Regardless, in totality he was fairly close to a saint. George Washington owned slaves, Muhammad allowed the killing of several hundred Jews to be ordered by one of his judges, St Augustine was an anti-semite, Lincoln was brutally repressive, FDR interred the Japanese, I mean we should recognize the darker side of our historical figures but in the case of all of them, their character and their acheivement in the cause of good outweighed their sins.

The reason we beleive in these people is because the good that they did is so overwhelming that their actions allow us to see what we can become if we're lucky.
