Very well, what was the purpose behind your move and what advantages/new opportunities have resulted? Besides legalized prostitution and drugs

QUOTE(Demosthenes @ Jun 20 2005, 12:45 PM) If they hire me to do commercials for them, yes. Somehow I doubt that will happen any time soon. Apparently, if you are from outside "Norden" (Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Iceland) and from outside the EU/EES area (which you are) you need to have a written job offer from a Swedish employer, or have close family living in Sweden as citizens, or marry a Swedish citizen, or be a refugee and be able to prove that you will come to harm if you are returned to the country you came from. In other words, you need to find a job in Sweden or find yourself a Swedish chick.

My brother is named Björn, and I know, or rather knew, one Sven. Sven and Björn aren't that common names though (although not uncommon either)... I think the most common male name is Johan.

I had a teacher named Björn, Sven is a bit less common I think. Though not as uncommon among the 40+ crowd.
Finding a job or a girl (Or guy I guess, if your inclination is that way, I wonder if registered partnerships has been tested for immigration?) is your best bet. Canadian or Israeli citizenship shouldn't matter. (in the present situation) |

Legalized prostitution? IIRC in Sweden, buying the services of a prostitute is punishable with... was it rape charge? or did it have a separate one?

To add on to and perhaps clarify what Arilou wrote, it is illegal to buy "services" from a prostitute but it is not illegal to offer your "services" as a prostitute. In other words, if Arilou offered me a blowjob if I gave him 3$, I accepted, gave him these 3$ and received a blowjob, I would have committed a crime (purchasing sexual services from Arilou) whereas Arilou would not have committed a crime (selling is not a crime).
The punishment for temporary sexual relations for compensation is a fine or up to 6 months in jail. |

When you people change your laws so it isn't insanely difficult for me to do so. Until then I'm forced to stay within the EU. I did go to college in the US (in Missouri) for 5 years though. |

What do you prefer, ideological consistency or pragmatism? IE: If a certain party (no names mentioned) has to give up enacting certain policies in order to get into power (policies they have long said they'd implement) should they still try (and get what they *can* do, while abondoning some of their principles for the foreseeable future) or should they remain ideologically pure, even if it means they have little or no shot at governing?

We're talking about Moderaterna I assume? No, I don't think it's right, wise, or practical to water done your agenda just to be able to pass some of it through. You should take your time, work for (all) the things that you believe are the right policies, and educate people as to why they are the right policies. And if you're not able to convince enough people that your policies are the right policies then those policies should not be put in place and in any case would most likely fail if they were.
